In Pittsburgh, many of Raja Fashions’ regulars are doctors and lawyers. One travels from Wheeling, W.Va., to meet with him, Mr. Menon said. Appointments are typically an hour and include recording detailed measurements of the client and taking a series of photographs that give tailors in Hong Kong a better sense of the person’s body shape. There also are dozens of books of fabric swatches and linings (from classic paisley to camo) from high-end labels such as Italy’s Ermenegildo Zegna and England’s William Halstead they can choose from.
Men’s suits are delivered within four weeks, although women’s suiting requires more time and an extra session to ensure the fit is done correctly, Mr. Menon said.
Because Raja Fashions has had a lot of success in recent years in its overseas markets, it’s able to sell suits at competitive prices. For example, suits typically go for about $500 — a reduction of about $300 compared to prices before the company’s sales volume grew. Right now it has an ongoing special: two suits and two shirts for $780. For wedding parties, it offers discounted rates.
During Mr. Menon’s latest trip to Pittsburgh, Matt Achmoody, 32, of Gibsonia paid him a visit to get fitted for a two-button black suit for a friend’s wedding in May. It’s a gift for the groomsmen from the groom, who connected the group with Raja Fashions, Mr. Achmoody said.
